Re: weird splotches on face after finishing lupron treatment/will it go away? From: Angel (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 28 Aug 2003 20:24:26 -0500 (CDT)
Hi: You may have what is called Melasma. It is a condition that causes hyper-pigmentation of the skin, specifically on the face. It's usually caused by an elevation in hormones such as estrogen. Many pregnant women get melasma some also get it while on certain birth control pills. What is important is that you STAY OUT OF THE SUN. Keep the area covered with sunscreen. You can also ask your doctor for a skin lightening solution. Some new laser treatments can help improve Melasma. I encountered the same thing on my cheek bones. I've been on every major bc pills for 20 years and none bothered me. This time I was on Ortho Evra when the Melasma started. I have now switched to Nuvaring. Hope this helps you!
