Re: Burning when urinatingFrom: Erica (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 17 Aug 2003 10:01:22 -0500 (CDT)
Sounds like you may be getting a urinary tract infection (UTI). The burning while urinating and the fact that the feeling doesn't go away when you do urinate is a classic symptom. These might be happening because you're not seeing your boyfriend as often, and when you have sex, (especially if it's vigorous sex), your urethra gets irritated and becomes colonized by bacteria spread from your rectal area up to the urethral opening. First thing: go see a doctor. They can analyze your urine and tell if you've got bacteria and white blood cells present, then prescribe you an antibiotic. Second: Before having sex, wash the vulva and rectum. Don't wipe from back to front - always front to back, so you don't spread bacteria. Try to urinate before sex. During sex, don't let your boyfriend touch your rectal area with his hands or penis and then touch your vulva. And at the end, get up right away and urinate. That will help flush out any bacteria that managed to get into your urethra during sex. Third: Drinking cranberry juice can help prevent UTIs. You want to have acidic urine - bacteria don't like that environment. Hope you feel better soon!
