Re: how can this be?From: D.N. (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 10 Aug 2003 12:16:03 -0500 (CDT)
My situation is a little complicated because I have ovarian remnant syndrome after a hysterectomy for fibroids and endometriosis. I do know when I ovulate because of the pain and when I ovulate I have cyclical pain. I have had the times when I don't ovulate, but still have the endo pain (that is like a period), so I count that as an anovulatory cycle. I have also gotten to the point where I don't always have a cycle- ovulatory or anovulatory. That has been when the hot flashes get worse - usually about 4 months after my last true cycle - if that makes any sense. I think for someone who still has a uterus, you might be able to tell if it is an anovulatory cycle by the length of the cycle (longer) and usually a heavier period - although if you are getting toward the end of perimenopause, that might become lighter too because you are producing less estrogen. Hot flashes don't indicate whether or not you ovulate or not because you can have them either way, it is just they usually get worse when the estrogen is way down. I hope this helps. Best wishes, D.N.
