Abnormal Pap/Please offer adviceFrom: Lisa (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 7 Aug 2003 14:22:24 -0500 (CDT)
I recently had a pap smear that came back abnormal with high risk of HPV. The doctor asked me to come in for a follow up. No one from the doctor's office ever called me, I had to call and find out the results myself. The day of the pap I was using monistat for a yeast infection and my period also began the same day, and I had sex the night before. When I asked the doctor if these things could possibly have confounded the test, he said possibly but not likely. He says that I should not be worried, but how can I not be worried, I am an emotional wreck after hearing this. Can someone explain to me exactly what this means. Do I definately have HPV and the Dr. just wants to spare me, and/or could all of the above things caused an abnormal pap result. Thank you,
-- Lisa
