Tina,

The most significant risk factors for cervical cancer is infection with the HPV virus and multiple sex partners. Smoking is associated with increased risk, and it also appears birth control pills plat a role somehow.

Pap smears have made cervical cancer less common than years ago. Since it is relatively common, I doubt heredity plays a major role. Since this is a disease which is almost always curable when caught early enough, the issue is really to get regular exams and not worry whether it's hereditary or not.
