Re: hello. please help me figure this out! From: SusieQ (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 4 Aug 2003 13:45:24 -0500 (CDT)
Hello Tiffany, This sounds very normal to me. If you started taking bcp at 15 years old, your periods were probably light at that age. They usually are for 15 year olds. Your periods can be a lot lighter when taking the bcp too. It seems like you are having a normal bleed with cramps now. Your body is adjusting to the changing dose of hormones (because you are not taking the bcp). It will normalize over the next few months. Why did you stop taking the bcp? Have you considered stopping for a 2-3 months to help your system normalize? You should be concerned if the bleeding becomes excessive. Excessive means that you have to change a super maxi pad in less than one hour. If this is happening you should make an appointment with the gyn for a check-up. One thing concerns me about your story. All studies concerning hormone use and cancer show an increased risk if you take the pill over a long period in your life. For instance, the lifetime risk of breast cancer is higher if you have taken the hormones for more than ten years. You have already been on them for four and you are 19 years old. How long do you plan on taking them? This is something you might want to discuss with your gynecologist. Hope your feeling better soon. Luck, SusieQ
