Dermoids and pregnancyFrom: Alex (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 3 Aug 2003 21:03:53 -0500 (CDT)
This is my situation: I was told last week by my gynocologist that I have one small dermoid on one of my ovaries. He is waiting to see if it grows in size and I am supposed to have another ultrasound in September to check the status of this dermoid cyst. Supposedly, he did a reinous scan (etc) and the dermoid does not look cancerous. I am 38 years old and am actively trying to conceive with my husband. When I asked my gynocologist if it was okay to continue to try to get pregnant, he said it was and that he could watch the dermoid cyst throughout my pregnancy since I would be getting steady ultrasounds anyway. Before I found out about this dermoid, I was already trying to concieve with my husband. I guess for additional information on this, if I am already pregnant (which I am not sure of yet), would it be a problem to carry a baby to full term with a dermoid cyst. And, if I am not pregnant, should I not try to conceive until the cyst is removed, or it is confirmed it is not increasing in size? If you could give me some information or context for this, I would appreciate it.
