should I take oral flagyl as opposed to metrogel? opinion please doctor....

I am 25, almost 26 wks pregnant and was diagnosed with bv (non trich) last week. I had the doctors check me at 21 wks and there was no infection, so I must have only had it for 2-3 wks. I have a history of pprom and sub. loss at 17 wks for unknown origins in my last ivf pregnancy.

my doctor prescribed ampicillin, which I took for 4 days and received no relief from itching, burning, soreness. I also researched treatment for bv and I saw ampicillin was not effective.

I called my doctor back to tell him this and he prescribed Metrogel for 5 days. I asked for the oral kind as I have heard that this can help protect against PTL though he sort of talked me out of it saying why risk the fetus to meds when Metrogel can get rid of infection.

He said he would do the oral though out of fear to hurt the baby I took the metrogel. It has helped and I have only taken 2 doses.

Question: I have an appt this week with my doctor....do you think it is important to treat systemically? Should I ask him to prescribe the oral as well, even if I am cured on wet mount? He is not one of the believers of PTL/Prom/bv connection and kept assuring me that in 30 yrs of practice he sees hundreds of infected women who go full term and infections that are treated are harmless.

Help! I just want to protect my baby and pregnancy.
