V.large fibroid - no shrinkage after pregnancyFrom: Al (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 28 Jul 2003 17:46:54 -0500 (CDT)
Uterine fibroid - No shrinkage 4 months after pregnancy. First my fibroids were discovered on outer side of the uterus in 1998 during ultrasound scan. The size of one of them was as big as a grapefruit but they didn’t cause any symptoms. The fibroids rapidly increased in size during my recent pregnancy. Two of them joined together and formed a melon-size huge fibroid. Towards the end of my pregnancy I looked like as if I was currying triplets. My baby was safely delivered via c-section and I was told that the fibroid should shrink. Now, 4 months on, the fibroid hasn’t shrunk. The size is the same if not slightly bigger. I look like if I am 8-9 months pregnant, I have very restricted mobility and activity and I easily get tired which makes being a new mum very difficult. Please help me with advice!!! Does this mean it will not shrink? Does this indicate serious problem? Should I consider urgent surgery? Are their alternative ways to deal with this (apart from embolisation)? Thanks in advance.
-- Al. PS. I am currently breastfeeding.
