Re: 31 years old - Remove Ovaries?From: Rachel (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 26 Jul 2003 07:32:52 -0500 (CDT)
Anon, do you have endometriosis? If you have scar tissue causing you pain, you should know that Lupron will NOT get rid of scar tissue. There are many side effects of Lupron, and some can be long-term, or even permanent. Unfortunately, there is no way to be sure how you're going to react to the drug. You may need to undergo another laparoscopy. The best way to get rid of those adhesions is through excision, where they actually cut them out of you. Lasering them away isn't as effective and they could return. If you do have endometriosis, removing your ovaries would be a better way to ensure that endo doesn't come back, especially if you don't take estrogen supplements for about 8 months after their removal. But, endo can still come back if it's deep in the tissue of other organs. I'm not a doctor, but I do have endo and I've had surgery to remove adhesions, and I must say it will offer you a great deal of relief to have the scar tissue removed. If you're not comfortable with the options your doctor has given you, request copies of your medical records, and seek a second opinion, or a third or fourth, until you're happy with all your choices. Losing ovaries is a hard thing to face, but it's a decision only you can make for yourself. If you need to talk further, please feel free to email me privately. Good luck to you.
