Insurance & Pap

I am looking for a new dr and was doing some calls. I asked about the doctors response to abnormal pap smears. They said no matter what clasification the abnormal pap is according to my insurance (PPO) the dr has to follow up with a colposcopy. I understand if it's LGSIL or something but why do I have to go in for colposcopy if it's only infecion and not have just repeat paps? Anyone know if this is accurate, or are they just using my insurance as an excuse?
