A hysterectomy (removal of uterus only)will NOT reduce your risk for ovarian cancer. You need to remove your ovaries to reduce your risk. Removing them will NOT totally eliminate the risk, however. There is a theory that use of birth control pills lowers ovarian cancer risk, but studies are NOT conclusive. There are some good studies that suggest that the pill does NOT lower risk. Not smoking may reduce your risk, but not eliminate it. If you are that concerned about the risk of ovarian cancer, I would urge you to talk it over in detail with your doctor, who knows your total medical history.
