A pap smear is only a screening tool. It only screens for abnormal cells where it can reach, usually the surface of the cervix. Fibroids are pretty common, I think something like 40% of the adult female population has them and they are more common as we get older. Sounds like your doc is being cautious and checking everything out to make sure it is OK. Your doc most likely picked us the large fibroid during the pelvic exam. Fibroids quite often cause abnormal bleeding which in your case is masked by the ablation. I hope everything turns out OK for you, hopefully one of the docs will be along to answer you. Good Luck!
