I have heard that there are no >screening methods for ovarian cancer right now that are used routinely >like mamograms. Ovarian cancer occurs in about 1 in 80-100 women, depending on the source of the information. It is much, much less common than heart disease, and less common than breat cancer, which affects something like 1 out of 8 women (though the numbers vary by age group, the likelihood increasing as you age.) There aren't any good screening methods available yet. There is research that looks promising on a blood test, but it's hard to predict when and if it will be available. There's no way to tell whether an insurance company will pay for the test, but public demand for insurance coverage may make it more likely to happen.
