Cervical Cancer ProceduresFrom: Meredith (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 14 Jul 2003 06:21:06 -0700 (PDT)
My friend was diagnoased with cerival cancer a year a half ago. They first found that she had "pre-cancerous" cells that needed to be removed and she had laser surgery done. Shortly after this procedure her Dr. told that she had cervical cancer. She has since had up tp five different surgeries in the past 1 1/2 yrs and the cancer is still coming back. She is now anemic, and is painfully bloated all the time, her periods are still painfully irregular. Could this be a sign of ovarian cancer? How could she end up with cervical cancer if she had the pre-cancerous cells removed in the very early stages? I'm just confused because ever since she was a teenager she has been very good about having regular pap smears done. Also, no one ever told her that she had HPV until a few months ago. Why is this something that is not tested for if you request to have STD testing? I also had STD testing done and found out a couple weeks ago that I also have HPV. Why was this not something that a Dr would normally test for if it's such a prevelant STD? It may be something someone can live with but doesn't the fact that it can cause cancer in woman put it out there for be a life threatening virus? I'm worried for my friend that she is not getting the proper treatment she needs to recover from this. She is much to young for a hysterectomy and it looks like that's now where they are heading. Sorry for being so emotional. I'm just looking for some answers. SBC Yahoo! DSL - Now only $29.95 per month!
