ovarian cysts and cancer risk?

Is the past occurrence of benign ovarian cysts an indication of increased risk of ovarian cancer? I had cysts occur twice over a period of several years. The first occurred when I was 39 and was drained by a laproscopic procedure. The second cyst was suppressed by going on birth control hormones. This was nearly 10 years ago. I now need a hysterctomy but am not sure if my ovaries should be removed simply because I am 51.

I have no signs of menopause yet and wonder if ovaries may serve some beneficial function even after menopause. However, there doesn't seem to be much information on this question, just that the ovaries don't completely stop functioning after menopause.
