Re: Chronic Pelvic Pain - Pelvic Adhesive DiseaseFrom: Cindy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 1 Jul 2003 14:47:48 -0500 (CDT)
I know where you are coming from. I have extensive adhesions due to Crohn's disease and 5 abdominal surgeries. I have an ovarian remnant that was causing problems and tried to find a surgical solution since I'm already on tons of meds. but 3 gynecological oncologists declined to go back in. these were docs at 3 major university hospitals. and quite honestly, at the time, I was so desperate for pain relief that I was tempted to keep trying to find someone to do it. but thankfully, my regular gyn talked some sense into me and got me to accept that a "quick" surgical fix would be too risky and would most likely worsen the situation. (I put quick in quotations since my last surgery took 8 hours) for now, I'm taking meds to shut down the ovary remnant. the plan is that when I need more bowel surgery, they'll address the gyn issues to see if they do anything to help. and for me, more surgery is a given, it's just a matter of when. I would really recommend talking to your doc about the wide variety of different BCPs now available. talk about things like what you would consider successful treatment, how much time to allow the meds to work, what to do if your emotional health worsens, what kind of monitoring you should have. antidepressants can actually help relieve pain, so definitely ask about that. you also might want to go to a pain clinic for evaluation and recommdations. for me, what has worked is: meds, accupuncture, yoga, back exercises, low-dose daily pain meds, anti-depressants and counseling with a behavioral therapist. take care, I hope you can find relief soon
