bacterial vaginitis/Metrogel questions

I thought I had a yeast infection (which I sometimes get) but went to DR for diagnosis and she said it was a mild vaginal infection (vaginitis and/or garnerella)?? Sorry TMI.

I of course became paranoid that DH was up to something since I've never had an infection there before, and we've been married over 3 years and together for over 5! Well, the DR said it can happen for other reasons (than sexually spread) like abnormal PH balance and/or cells, or stronger soaps or shampoos.

Now DH is mad at me when I joked about his extramarital affair

Anyway, she said it should be taken care of right away, especially if I'm ttc. So she prescribed metrogel vaginal inserts. But, after reading documentation, it has some warnings for pregnant women, and has caused miscarriages. My DR knows I'm ttc, but said it's better to diminish infection and face those risks! I can't believe there is not another brand that would be better, just in case I'm pregnant (chances though are minimal with my ttc history ) But after some Internet research, it looks like this med is always the protocol.

I really don't need this added stress with all the other ttc issues. Plus, it really grosses me out to think I have an infection!

Just wanted to see if anyone has ever experienced this.
