Tubal vs. Hysterectomy.... fibroids a factor

I spoke with a surgeon about getting a tubal ligation done. As part of the pre-op exams, they found that my uterus was enlarged to 16-18 weeks. Ultrasound showed several fibroids which had doubled in size (and increased in quantity) from a previous ultrasound (for unrelated reasons) performed in 1996. The two largest ones are in the 4.5 to 5.5 cm range and extend outward from the uterus, one to the anterior, the other to the posterior. After seeing the ultrasound results, my surgeon recommended a hysterectomy instead of the tubal. She said that if I really still wanted just a tubal she would perform it, but against her better judgement and with great reluctance. I'm seeking a second opinion from another doctor in the community, but would like to hear any input from you. Thanks in advance.
