Estrogen and YeastFrom: Mel (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 22 May 2003 03:50:44 -0500 (CDT)
I was recently diagnosed with tumors in the liver. I was advised by my doctor that estrogen could cause these tumors to increase in size, so I stopped taking my birth control pills. For the past year I have also been plagued with several yeast infections due to the use of antibiotics for acne. I have discontinued the antibiotics as well. The last couple of months I had 2 infections in a row that required quite a bit of Diflucan and Terazol. I'm now experiencing vaginal dryness. My ob/gyn's P.A. suggested that estrogen cream would help with the dryness and yeast infections, but she was concerned to give it to me because of the liver tumors. I have been checking on the net and it seems that no one can agree on exactly how much of estrogen creams get absorbed into the blood stream through the vagina. Would it be safe for me to use estrogen cream? Are there creams that have less systemic effects? Are there any non-estrogen alternatives that could help with the dryness and yeast infections? Thank you.
