Iud Strings FeltFrom: TJ (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 16 May 2003 16:55:21 -0500
I am 28 years old. I've had the Mirena for about a month, and it seemed like a good idea. But now I can't have sex because my boyfriend can feel the strings, which wouldn't be so bad except that they are very short and just poking out of my cervix like bristles. he says it feels like being poked with needles in the head of his penis. I made an appointment, went in, and the nurse practitioner told me that maybe I should insert lube up there with an applicator. I really don't think that would somehow change the spikey ends of the polyurethane filaments, do you? I use lube already. Two nurses told me that it was too short for them to cut any more, and one mention changing positions, which I have tried repeatedly to no avail. It is very painful for him and frustrating for me to have spent 400 bucks in order to practice the cheapest form of BC ;) . I have made an appointment with the doctor who inserted it, but I want to know what my options would be. I have already been told that it was too short to cut more without the risk of losing its retrival method. Can the ends be melted? How dangerous is it to have the string completely cut flush with the cervix? What would be the method of retrival and its risks? i am loath to dispose of my method of checking for its placement because I have never had children and I worry about it migrating or being expelled without my ability to know. I suspect the doctor cut the strings too short but cannot be sure because she did not show me or have me check them after placement. If she did not, and she left the strings longer at first, would we be able to pull it back down so the strings are not so short and stiff? Thanks for any answers and wish me luck!
