Menstrual clotting -- is it supposed to be like this? From: Tia (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 18 May 2003 22:41:50 -0500 (CDT)
I've had more clotting than usual with my current period. Yesterday I took a long bath, after which I noticed there were a number of long, stringy clots floating in the bath water. Then I realized that a lot of the blood had rinsed away from them, and they were not just blood clots as I had thought, but had structure underneath. The structure looks like a fractal squid. There's a stalk, then a long thick section, then an eruption of branching. It looks like a sea creature. To be honest, it kinda freaked me out. I have done a little research and have learned that clots in menstrual blood are made up of endometrial tissue, but I haven't been able to find out what it is supposed to look like. Is this fractal squid structure normal? Is it something to be alarmed about? Are they uterine polyps? And is it normal for them to just detach themselves during my period and appear in my bathwater? Any answer most appreciated! Tia
