I would like a hysterectomyFrom: sameasalways (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 18 May 2003 13:05:59 -0500 (CDT)
I have spotting 11 days of the month. I have tried to find alternatives to taking an oral contraceptive or POP pill everyday to regulate my cycle. It seems other than endometrial ablation which my insurance will not cover and seems only effective for 3 to 5 years is the only other option so since it is temporary and not covered I don't want it. My husband has a vasectomy and did so because I can't tolerate oral contraceptives. The dr. wants me to try oral contraceptives again..I told him I would but as each day passes before its time to start the pill again I look forward to it with more and more disgust. I am 28 w/two children already and we are not having more. I don't want to take a pill the rest of my life until menapause just because of spotting. The thought of that drives me mad. Vaginal hysterectomy while retaining my ovaries would allow me to never have another spotting or bleeding problem again in my life...and I have atleast 20 years more to go before finally reaching menapause. Am I crazy for wanting to choose hysterectomy over the other choice? (taking a pill the rest of my life). The doctor already did D & C, hysterescope, ultrasound, MRI, and removal of a dermoid. My spotting is always a couple of days prior to and for 8 days after my period. I don't know if I am short on some type of hormone or what but from what I have read, it would mean I'm short on estrogen. I don't care if I am short on estrogen as long as I am thin, stabile mood, and still have my sex drive...all which are taken away when I take oral contraceptives.
