30 lb. weight loss during pregnancy followed by full weight gained back afterFrom: baffled (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 15 May 2003 10:14:04 -0500 (CDT)
Five and a half years ago, I began gaining weight for no apparent reason, except perhaps stress with a major move, marriage, quitting smoking, changing jobs, etc. all within a few months of one another(but my eating did not change as a result of the stress). I gained 50 lbs! A no sugar, no white flour, no fried foods (no surprise I failed after three months) diet was the only thing that seemed to help, and after going off of it I gained all the weight back PLUS! Then I got pregnant and like magic dropped 30 lbs!!! I gained 37 with the pregnancy, but still looked great by comparison and wore all my old clothes throughout the pregnancy. Breastfeeding helped me lose the 37 lbs in a few weeks, but six months later (still nursing) I gained 15 lbs within a week, and within less than a year (still nursing) was back up to pre-pregnancy weight. What the heck is going on? Do cortisol levels change during pregnancy? Please help--I'm very frustrated, and can't just get pregnant every time I want to lose weight = ) Thanks.
