Can BV really cause PID, other stuff?

I was told long ago that it didn't cause any long term problems if left untreated to resolve on its own....I have had many cases of BV throughout the past 8 years. It has always went away on its own after about 3 to 4 weeks. Other than doing nothing I have used vinegar and water douches or contracep green (which is avaialbe in germany it is a lactic acid based spermicide for diaphgragms and caps). I know american doctors say not to douch but I have talked to UK gyn's who approve of the use of a vinegar and water douch for most yeast infections as a first step in getting rid of yeast infections or BV. I have used this type of douche many times with no ill consequences, even while having an IUD in the past. I have had yearly paps and STD checks (though I am married and monogomous). I also have used tea trea oil douches....why is douching looked down on so much in america? I don't understand how BV causes PID or cervicitis if mine has gone away on its own always in the past and actually I have had a case of BV in 9 months. This is the first yeast infection I've had in a year also and I think its ridiculous to have to go have a pelvic just to get diflucon ( I just had my yearly pap 5 days ago). The onlything I have is recurrent spotting but the dr. has done every test he could and finds nothing..including hysterscopy and D & C.
