Definitely what you describe, in the absence of thyroid disorder, are symptoms of the climateric or perimenopausal period of life. The reduced levels of estrogen often leads to a thinning of the skin and mucosa, situation which could lead to fissures. You should test for female hormones levels in your blood as well as for micronutrients. A deficiency in micronutrients could also lead to the thinning you describe.
