bizarre recent hormonal changes..help!

In the past two years, I've RAPIDLY gained nearly 40 lbs (I'm only 5'5"), to the point where I am technically over weight now. I started eating less, eating healthier, and exercising more. I've always exercised moderately. Despite this, I am still CONSISTANTLY and RAPIDLY gaining weight. Each week I don't fit into something I fit into last week. Over the past few months, I've also noticed that my hair has become very course and dry. My face has become dry and patchy. No products help. I drink plenty of water. Also, at the end of the day, my mouth becomes so dry it's painful. When the weight gain started, I saw a doctor who did some lab work and said I was fine. However, everything is getting worse. I think there is something really wrong with me, but I have no idea what it might be. I'd like to be able to go to the doctor and have a guess as to why this is happening, rather than having them do nothing and say "oh, that just happens when you get older".

Any ideas?

thanks
