Cyclic Anal FissuresFrom: Sara (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 30 Apr 2003 10:55:34 -0500 (CDT)
I am 41. I have noticed that at ovulation and again just before my period I get anal fissures. I had an internal lateral sphincerotomy which was to be 90-95% effective with no recurrance but they continue to return. Had the sigmoidoscopy, blood work etc and no cause was found. I have had a second look by another colorectal surgeon and still nothing. I was told that the skin there is thin looking and dry but not dermatitis showed up. The fact that all my skin is dry (thyroid is normal) makes me wonder if hormones are related as I do have night sweats, shortened cycles, etc related to perimenopause. So...being that this is cyclic, could hormones play a role in anal fissures?
