labia minora reductionFrom: C (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 19 Apr 2003 22:35:49 -0500 (CDT)
I have searched the archives on this topic but still have a question or two. One of my labia has always protruded significantly, and I have discomfort during sex and friction from clothes. It's always been irritating to me but I have never brought it up to my gynecologist out of embarrassment. Now that I'm old enough to not be embarrassed I'm wondering whether it's worth it to have something done. I've read about the plastic surgery done for appearance, but I couldn't care less about that (as long as it wasn't completely freakish). I don't want to be left with something even more sensitive than before, however. Can reduction be done in the office with a local anesthetic? Can my regular gynecologist do it with a minimum of fuss or do I need to see some specialist and have it done in an OR? Also, I have a little string of flesh (leftover hymen, maybe?) on my vulva that has no feeling; it's something I noticed after the birth of my first child (with episiotomy). Can that be snipped off? It creeps me out, I know that's silly but it does. Thanks in advance.
