The alternative to the colonoscopy is the upper and lower GI barium series. You can't get a biopsy w/the barium series but you can get a better look at the small intestine. This might be the way to go if the pain is in the lower right quadrant, groin area. Have you had a colonoscopy before? Aside from the cleansing prep you should have no discomfort. You are not given just pain med but also a sedative that should leave you waking up after the procedure wondering when they were going to start. I've had 4 colonoscopies, if it weren't for the cleansing, they've been a "piece of cake".
