Re: ply to Brune.From: anonymous@obgyn.netWed, 9 Apr 2003 06:22:36 -0500 (CDT)
I'm sorry, I have to say, the original poster is right. I spent literally hundreds on membership and materials over the last 10 yrs. and finally got smart one day when I realized they weren't actually DOING anything for me. Turns out, I can get much of the same materials from ERC for free, I can get support from ERC for free, and there is a wonderful - amazing - sense of community with ERC and it's members. I just cannot support an organization that takes so MUCH $$$ from GnRH makers when so MANY women have problems with the drugs, especially when the org. does so little to actually help. Perception and reality are 2 very different things, I learned, when it comes to EA. A lot of women seem to hold EA in high regard because for a long time they were the ONLY endo organization out there and were great for that reason. But that's no longer so; there are many other orgs. out there now and EA better come down off the high horse and remember why they were formed in the 1st darn place - to help women with Endo. It's not about how much $$ they can make or how "important" they can appear to be in the endo community - it's about women and girls with endo. But they have overlooked that! Sorry, but I learned the hard way that other help IS out there for free or little $, and without all the ethical and questionable baggage that EA comes with. I know OBGYN.net is an EA site and lots of the staff here is affiliated with EA and that ERC and NES are largely ignored here, which is sad, but last I checked it's still a free country, so I'm sharing my thoughts. Check out http://www.endocenter.org and http://www.endo.org.uk for great help. It's rather upsetting how EA is lauded all over this site and other established, hardworking organizations get ignored. Oh, about the doc list, I have also been told by my former EA group leader that they do that ($ in exchange for referral). Have any of you noticed at all that MANY of their Advisors are TAP Advisors also? Doesn't that BOTHER anyone?!
