I'm not trying to be glib here but have you actually dealt with the endo association or are you going on assumptions. I have personally dealt with them and they have been very helpful. Yes, to some degree they do ask that you buy a membership because they are a volunteer organization, for the most part, and thats how they get things done--at least from my understanding. On the other hand, if you can't afford one, they won't deny you information just because you aren't a member. They have a place to ask general question on the web page and were very prompt and helpful with information BEFORE I bought a membership--I e-mailed them quite a few times and was never refused. You may be right when you say that the Dr.'s on the list pay for referals--I can't prove otherwise--but when I e-mailed I was given the name and number of a woman in my state that runs a volunteer support group and I got the names of two Dr.s directly from her (she has endo herself) and some of her medical friends who deal regularly with women with endo (one was the doc who diagnosed her)--again, all months BEFORE I bought a membership. The crisis lines are usually the names and numbers of people (sometimes e-mails) who actually have the disease and have volunteered to be available to give support and information--real people! Please don't squelch someone elses attempt to find information and support when they need it most--they can decide for themselves by contacting the EA if they think it will help them.
