Oral contraceptives inhibit ovulation. If you take them correctly, you are protected any time you have sex, generally after the first pack of pills, whether you are taking the active or inactive pills. I would suggest you read the insert that comes with the pack to learn about how they work...and remember nothing is 100% so if you are that concerned use a condom as well.
