Question - hormones/birth controlFrom: Amy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 2 Apr 2003 18:41:30 -0600 (CST)
I am 31 years old with 2 children. I have been on birth control (Ortho-Tricyclen) for about 10 years. I quit taking birth control pills at the end of December, by the end of January I started to retain water (pitting edema)in my legs, face and hands. I also had various other problems after that like poor memory, irritable, and joint pains. My doctor ran tests and her final diagnosis was Cyclic Edema. I asked my doctor if my symptoms could be because of my stopping the birth control, she said that could not be. On my own, I started to take my birth control pills again. Within 1 week the swelling is almost gone and I feel like my self again. I am thinking that I maybe estrogen dominant or something along the lines with hormones. I am not sure who to see to help with this. If it would be an endocrinologist? I also would like to know if anyone has heard of anything like this?
