bcp and prolonged bleedingFrom: nonews (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 31 Mar 2003 07:05:15 -0600 (CST)
My gyn just put me on low dose birth control pills to "factor out" hormonal causes to my prolonged bleeding. (I've been bleeding/spotting since January 2nd.) He said if that's not the problem and the bleeding doesn't stop, he'll move onto to other possible causes. (I believe it really is a hormonal issue) He said to expect breakthrough bleeding. Now I'm wondering how I'll be able to tell the difference between the breakthrough bleeding. How long does breakthrough bleeding typically last? He said to try this for two to four months. I'd really like to reduce the amount of time I spend on birth control pills... I already have an IUD and chose that method so I wouldn't have to worry about adding hormones to my system... they tend to give me migraines and change my mood too much. Thanks.
