Interruption in periodFrom: GD (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 30 Mar 2003 11:35:25 -0600 (CST)
I am a 40 year old woman, do not use birth control and am not taking any medications. I have a regular 27-30 day cycle, but my menstrual flow usually begins with about 1 day of spotting, followed by 2-4 days of "regular" blood flow (sometimes with clots), then nothing for about a day, then my period will resume for an additional 3-4 days of dark or brown thick spotting. Can this be normal, or could it be a symptom of endometrial polyps or hormone problems? [I'm confused about whether the break in the period indicates the spotting is post-menstrual, or if I'm actually just having a normal period for me and shouldn't worry.] BTW, I don't have any unusual pain or other symptoms (just regular menstrual cramping), plus my last pap smear in January was all clear. Thanks, GD
