contradictory diagnosisFrom: Aimee (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 28 Mar 2003 16:14:26 -0600 (CST)
Had a laparoscopy in Jan. because my GYN thought I might have endometriosis: lower right pelvic pain (worse around period and ovulation), sore right ovary during physical exams, lower back and right flank pain, irregular periods and cycle length, spotting between periods, night sweats, stomach pain, indigestion, fatigue, etc. I'm 41 and never had an irregular period. A few years ago had an enlarged ovary and spotting, they thought, due to a ruptured cyst (right side) but that's it. After the lap GYN told me he didn't find anything but, during my postop, he skimmed over the fact that he HAD found a "spot", didn't know if it was endo or not, and had lasered it (no details at all, seemed almost like he was embarrassed, and wouldn't look me in the eye) and then launched into a speech about how it was all in my head (did look me in the eye now) . I found out later, from the copy of the report, that the spot was on my left ovary (along with a small hemorrage), about 1cm in size, he noted "lobulation" of that same ovary, and said he considered a biopsy but couldn't. Basically I feel I was totally brushed off. I've spoken to several health care folks and none of them can understand why he didn't do a biopsy. Any suggestions on what the spot might have been--worry about ovarian cancer but know it's uncommon--would be greatly appreciated. Any suggestions on other things that could be causing my symptoms that I can research and ask my GP about would also be appreciated. and lastly, would a TVS show growths on the outside of ovaries, tubes, etc.? The GYN seemed to have no idea about the spot until the surgery. Thanks so much! Aimee B.
