Recurrent UTIs / Circumcision connection

Hi everyone,

I wanted to share some information I recently learned about the link between circumcision in males and UTI risk in females.

I used to get UTIs very regularly after sexual intercourse--despite drinking tons of water, urinating after sex, maintaining good hygiene, taking cranberry pills, not using a diaphragm, etc. When I took antibiotics after sex, I started getting resistant infections that were very hard to shake.

This has been a problem since I started having sex. I always had partners who were circumcised. I am now with a man who is uncircumcised, and although we have had intercourse very frequently (about once a night for the past month), I have not had a single UTI. The feeling with him is very different--far less chafing, much smoother, gentler, and more natural feeling. I think that having a foreskin allows him to move in a way that doesn't transfer bacteria into the urethra. I used to get a UTI probably 50% of the time when I had sex, so not having had one in the past month is pretty remarkable.

I would be interested in hearing from anyone who has had UTIs or who has had uncircumcised partners, or who has heard anything else about this connection. I've been researching circumcision in an effort to find out more, and have been shocked at the number of medical problems this procedure causes (problems for men, that is--infections, erectile dysfunction, lack of sensation, etc....I have not yet found any literature that deals with the effect of male circumcision on female partners). Knowing what I do now, I would never allow my own sons to be circumcised.

Anyway, I look forward to corresponding with anyone who has insight into this. Take care, everyone!
