What can mimic pregnancy?From: Jill (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 27 Mar 2003 20:05:13 -0600 (CST)
Sterilised in 1998, at 42, during Caesarian section to deliver second son (Filshie clips. Problems from clips since. Pain, discomfort occasionally at orgasm, once or twice a huge twanging when I turned over, as if Fallopian tube were a rubber band and had been snapped. I am 46. Cycle steadfastly 28 days. I get Mittelschmerz, and PMT a week before period starts. Periods fine since sterilisation. Was due to start on 15th March. Everything as usual except PMT started earlier, seemed more severe. Noticed streak of blood at some point before I was due to start, and wondered if was going to be early for the first time ever. No. Still hasn't come. Was supposed to bleed on 15th, and it is now 28th. Instead of period I had continuation of severe cramping, plus new symptoms - nausea, tiredness, thirst, cravings, total inability to control emotions. I am not depressed. Have experienced this twice before - but both times was pregnant. This time it is impossible. I have been sterilised. Two over-the-counter pregnancy tests taken in the last week were negative. I have never missed a period in my life or been left with such cramping except when pregnant. I was pleased to be sterilised - family complete - so this is not wishful thinking. Questions: 1. Is this just the start of the menopause? Can everything be exactly the same as before, except for menstruation itself? And if so why am I left with all these other symptoms? I am usually on top of the world when my period ends. I am stuck with the nausea, which lasts from the time I get up until the early evening, and abdominal cramps, which are a real discomfort. 2. What else might be mimicking so effectively the symptoms of pregnancy?
