Did the pill affect my blood work? (report as ? not answered) Thanks!

Hello, I've been on Ortho Novum 7-7-7 for three months now (prescribed by my gyn for irregular menstrual bleeding).

Friday, I saw my internist. He had ordered routine blood work for me to have done prior to seeing him for this appointment. He checked for cholesterol, glucose, TSH, T4 along with the CBC and such.

For the first time ever (and I've had cholesterol checked every year for 10 years), my cholesterol came back high (207 - stands out in my mind. I don't remember the other number nor ratio of good/bad). I do not have a family history of high cholesterol and I have never had this before (10 years straight checking). I'm 36 years old.

I told my internist about being on the pill. He said it can affect your lipid panel. He doesn't want to check my cholesterol again until I'm off of the pill (hopefully in a few months).

Is this a normal side effect of the pill or should I be concerned that this has elevated my cholesterol level? DID it really elevate it or does it just look that way from the test results? Does this happen to everyone? Could this be a sign that this particular pill is wrong for me? Is there a need for me to discuss this with my gynecologist or not?

Thanks Kimberly
