Questions about Dysplasia & HPVFrom: Sequel (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 25 Mar 2003 20:23:13 -0800 (PST)
I have always had normal pap smears, until January, 2003 ~ when I was referred to a GYN because my pap was abnormal. Today, I was told by the GYN that I have VAGINAL DYSPLASIA. Looking at all the information contained within your site, I have these questions: 1) I am 46 y/o, and post-menopausal. Could the change in my harmones be a cause for the virus to start being active? 2) I was married for 18 years, divorced last June, 2002. Since then, I have a "significant other" I have been seeing for the last 8 months. We are sexually active and participate in oral sex as well. Will there be a possibility of our being exposed to this virus on an oral basis too? What would be the symptoms? I noted that HPV can also affect the esophogus. 3) I am a Crohn's patient. Have been diagnosed as such since 1998. Could my lowered immuno-system, added by the hormonal changes, have any bearing on why the virus has just now started to affect me? Your response would be greatly appreciated. Thank You,
-- Sequel Aston
