Pap taken while on period, came back abnormal (LGSIL)

My gynecologist insisted on taking a pap smear during my last menstrual cycle, even though I was willing to come back a week later and I wasn't due for a pap for another 6 months (I have regular paps on a yearly basis... I'm not a flake about these things). While he was performing the pap he said that there was a lot of blood on the cervix (well, duh) and that he'd have to scrape it away to get a clean sample. He also mentioned in passing that there was a chance that the pap might come back abnormal because of the fact that I was on my period. Well, sure enough, he called me up on Monday (a full month after he did the pap) and told me that it had come back "a little abnormal", consistant with LGSIL with HPV changes, but told me I shouldn't worry too much about it because these types of things tend to go away on their own. When I asked him if this might have anything to do with me being on my period at the time of the pap, he said it didn't, but he left it at that. I am going back in for a colposcopy the week after next just to get it out of the way so I know for sure what's going on...

But, is there a chance that fact that I was on my period when the pap was done has something to do with the abnormal result? I've never had an abnormal pap in my life. I also have a history of endometriosis.

Thank you for your advice!
