In any case, the only way to contract herpes is through sexual contact of one form or another. If you have only been with your boyfriend you most likely got it from him. Has he ever had his herpes typed? It is possible that the herpes on his lip is herpes type 2. For that matter, did they type the herpes you have or did they just assume it was type 2 because it is on the genitals? Perhaps you can call your doctor and ask him what you can do for the pain.
