Nuvaring and PMDD?From: oliver (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 7 Mar 2003 22:39:56 -0800 (PST)
I have been on the Nuvaring for 10 days now, and suddenly my PMS/PMDD symptoms have become so bad that I am constantly yelling at my kids and husband. I feel like I am going out of my mind with an irritability that can only be best described as being like severe Road Rage. Can this be a side effect of this birth control method? Everything I have read so far on this product never mentions an increase in PMS, making me question my sanity! Although no one has ever officially diagnosed me with PMDD, I am sure that is what I have, since I have had severe PMS every month for as long as I can remember. I also had severe postpartum depression after the birth of my first child, and subsequently started getting similiar symptoms of anxiety and an inability to deal with stress about halfway through my second pregnancy. I have been on practically every SRRI made at one time or another with only temporary (6 mos or so) on each. Prozac, Zoloft, Celexa, Wellbutrin, and now currently am on Effexor XR. Even on Effexor I still have noticeable PMS the last two weeks of my cycle and feel remarkably better as soon as I start. It used to be only the last week of my cycle, but since I have gotten older it has grown to two weeks. What's left to look forward to? 3 weeks? Then 4 weeks? I am now 36 and tired of spending half the month being a bitch and the other half dreading that it's coming up again. Is there possibly any real relief out there?!!! Susan Yahoo!
