long-term frustration: fragile vulva

Hi,

For the past three years, I have been experiencing pain after sex. After intercourse, my vulva swells beyond reason, and I am left with a tear at the bottom of the vulva and sometimes a few other tears that last several days. It is as though the skin in the area can't take much stress. I usually can't have sex for at least another day or two, and lately I sometimes feel the pain all week.

For background purposes, I am 26. I've been on the pill for 5 years. I get a gyn. physical every year and have been fully tested for STDs. I have had oral herpes on my genitals for three years, and, yes, my pain from intercourse started sometime after I recovered from my first outbreak. However, the outbreaks occur so rarely that it's hard to link the two conditions directly. The largest period of relief I felt from my fragile vulva was about 8-9 months after my gyn. put me a weekly dose of Diflucan for six weeks in a row (even though my exam tested negative for yeast).

I have been having trouble with yeast since I've been on the pill, especially when I go through periods of really bad emotional stress. I'm going through a lot of stress right now, and I've had an increase in yeast during the weeks between my period. Also, two months ago, I suffered my first outbreak in two years, a tiny outbreak, but for these past two months, sex has been harder than ever. My gyn. hasn't been helpful in addressing this problem. He seems to think it's normal, but I know it's not. Please, if you have any ideas, let me know: WHAT'S DOING THIS TO ME and how do I beat this?

Thanks.
