I'm not a doctor, but I've been on birth control for over 7 years and I do know that there is no reason why you need to change pills. In fact, you are more likely to get pregnant right after changing pills because your body has to adjust to the change. Alcohol does not decrease the effectiveness of the pill. However, your body will take longer to process the alcohol, increasing the length of time you'll feel its effects. I don't think tobacco decreases the effectiveness of the pill, either. But the health risks for birth control users who smoke are significantly higher than they are for those who don't. Be sure to read the patient insert that comes with your pills. It should discuss these risks. Hope this helps!
