Too Frequent Periods

For the past several months, on and off, I have had irregular periods. Most of the research I have done focuses on having extended menstrual cycles ranging from four to eight weeks. However my problem is that I bleed nearly every two weeks. I am on the birth control pill Levlen as I have been for the past two months at least. My OB/GYN prescribed Levlen because I was having frequent periods and she thought it was a result of my previous pill. I really have no leads as to what the problem might be. Can anyone advise a research source or have any idea what my problem might be? The irregular cycles are not a result of stress, over-exercising, or an eating disorder. Thank you for your suggestions!
