manopausal indications, OrgametrilFrom: Elif (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 23 Feb 2003 16:08:26 +0200
Hello This is my first time on this forum and the question I have is actually about my mother who might be facing menopausal complications. She's 52 years old. We live in Turkey. Several times in recent months she missed her period and then in the last few days she's had an irregular menstruation, but because she bled too much she went to see a doctor. The doctor told her that her uterus has grown large and there were clots of blood in it and he carried out a small operation to remove them. He said that was probably because she had too much estrogen. Then he gave her a test to see if there's any malignancy and the results will be out tomorrow. He also told her that it was about time her menopause started, looking at the typical menopause period for Turkish women (which he said would begin around 48 years old). Then he gave her Orgametril lynestrenol 5 mg dl-x-tocopherols (pharmacological features: strong progestative impact on endometrium. If it's taken every day without interruption, it will suppress ovulation and menstruation. Can be used in situations that require pro-apparent progestogenic effect.) My mom now says her bleeding stopped after the operation and as she takes the medication. I am urging her to see other doctors and also seeking your advice at the same time. Is it apt to use this medication in this case? Does it have strong side effects? What precautions and treatment my mother should follow if this is the beginning of a menopausal period? Should she use medication and hormone therapy to facilitate the start of menopause? Should we be worried about too much bleeding? Thanks and best regards Elif
