Heart disease is not always preventable. Many women do have risk factors and family history. Generally estrogen before menopause helps, but that isn't the case for everyone. If there is a strong family history, doing the proper things like diet and exercise and not smoking can help, but it doesn't guarantee that there won't be a problem. And a lot depends on when the person got "religion" as far as diet and exercise. If they ate a high fat diet as a kid, it was already known that fatty streaks are found in the arteries of kids. Also after menopause, the risk for heart disease goes up because of the lack of estrogen.

In addition, many women have no family history of the disease either. To avoid other preventative medical exams just because more people die from heart disease (usually self inflicted)is silly.
