4 week periodFrom: anon (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 18 Feb 2003 19:30:40 -0600 (CST)
I have always had irregular periods since I was 14 (I am now 22). I am also not currently sexually active (for over 3 years). My current period has lasted for 4 weeks. It started off very light so that I would only need a pantyline, pads & tampons were too much. For the past 12 days I have had a heavier period with at least 3 days of very heavy bleeding. Now I only need 2 regular tampons during the day and a pad is fine for the night. Before this period I did not have one for 4 to 5 months (which is not unusual - this has always happened a lot). I read that long periods are becuase you do not ovulate, but I do not know if this applies to this case. Is there anything I can do to get it to stop? I don't want to go on birth control unless I have to and would like to try something else first - do I need to exercise or change my diet? I plan to visit the gynocologist on my campus next week since that is the earliest they will see me but they are not always helpful from what I hear from friends. They just try to put you on birth control and don't discuss what other things can be cuasing the problem.
